This season has seen the hard work of the new tennis coach, Sarah Smith. Smith is a new Biology teacher at the high school and decided to take the tennis team under her wing.

“I’ve never coached tennis before,” Smith stated.  “But the team needed a coach so I volunteered for it.”

Smith is not the only fresh face on the tennis team.  Ricardo Ledezma is a junior who has played tennis with his family for years, but decided to try his hand at competing.

“As a first year tennis player, I wasn’t sure what I was in for.” Ledezma explained. “But after a couple of practices, we all grew to be friends. We’d all help each other.”

The team always prepares for conference as the season end approaches. The top six players, two singles and two doubles, go to conference. At conference, teams must win two of three matches to qualify for state.

Senior Morgan Whited has been on the tennis team since freshman year and has represented the school at the state conference every year. Whited blew through the competition in the first round, but lost to her opponent during the second round.
