The world is filled with many different beliefs about sexualties and genders. Patriot Equality, formerly known as Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), however, is hoping to bridge the gap between them all. Patriot Equality is a support group that is looking for new members. They meet every Friday morning at 7:30 in room 66 with sponsor Bobby Watkins. No matter the differences, everyone is welcome in Patriot Equality.

Unlike other clubs, members do not have competitions or activities to focus on. The group’s main objective is to provide students with a safe place to talk to peers about life issues.

“It’s a safe place for them to sit and talk, and not feel any type of judgement about their lifestyle,” Watkins said.

The club is not only for emotional support, just like the name suggests, it is about building bridges between different people. Patriot Equality  allows students to share their stories to others in hopes of building relationships in a judgement free environment. In this setting, people are enabled and encouraged to understand different points of view. This alliance is also good for students that plan on going into the public service, as this opens students up to thinking that may be different from their own.

“Patriot Equality is open and all inclusive,” Watkins said. “We are accepting of all lifestyles. Anyone who wants to join can.”

Doughnuts are provided every Friday morning at 7:30 in room 66. There is no fee to join. All students are openly accepted, whether they have a problem or are just looking to network with others. Members can also get volunteer hours. If interested or want more information, talk to Watkins or attend a meeting.
