What are you going to do when you graduate? This question often brings stress and anxiety to teenagers. Fortunately, for students at MHS, help has arrived.

The career coaching program returned to the district to help students apply for scholarships, decide between various careers, make sure students have financial aid and assist with any additional needs students may have concerning their future.

Mrs. Kaitlyn Burleson, career coach and Marion alumni,  is located in room 13 in the main building to help students figure out their future plans. Technically, Burleson is employed by ASU Mid-South; however, she is on campus almost daily making her a great resource for students with questions about concurrent coursework and credit.

Burleson also specializes in scholarships and financial aid for college bound students. She is available to help with completing a FAFSA, registering for the ACT, being able to talk to students about their career interests, assisting with resume writing for jobs and a multitude of other services.

Burleson feels that one of the challenges of her job is that students do not realize they need help. She strives to change that by bringing her energetic personality and helpful advice directly into classrooms, putting up fliers around the school and making herself available to students as needed in her office.

“There are a lot of careers out there that we see as the forefront careers that everyone knows about, but there are jobs to cater to every person,” Burleson explained.

Burleson is a one-stop resource for helping students figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives, regardless if that includes college or not.
