The 11th annual Crawfordsville Harvest Festival is Oct. 14, and roughly 5,000 people are expected to attend. The festival lasts from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and it will be held on Main St., which is the same street as Uncle John’s restaurant.

Crawfordsville Mayor, Joe Marotti, decided to host and organize the festival in order to raise money for the town and to bring the community together to have fun. While at the festival, attendees can listen to live music, explore different booths and enjoy food. At the end of the festival, there will be a raffle in which items such as a television, golf cart, lawn mower and other prizes can be won.

Math teacher, Mrs. Tracey Schwieger, who is also in charge of NHS (National Honor Society), which provides community service, said that NHS student volunteers will help with event set up from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Schwieger also clarified the issue of concurrent volunteer hours for multiple clubs. She provided the following example. If two clubs, such as Mu Alpha Theta and NHS, were offering four hours of service credit for the same event, a student would not receive four service hours for each club, but instead, two hours toward each club. Students can divide their hours however they prefer; for example, three hours for one club and one for the other, it is completely up to the student.

Schwieger offered advice to students having trouble fulfilling their required hours.

“You can get hours by volunteering at a church, at the animal shelter, or at the nursing home. I mean there are so many different areas of needs; it shouldn’t be a problem,” Schwieger stated.

She also calmed students’ nerves by saying there will plenty of opportunities to obtain hours within NHS.

“We want the exposure outside in the community, but it is not just going to be confined to that,” Schwieger reassured.

Schwieger provided her thoughts on the Crawfordsville Harvest Festival.

“I’m planning on being out there, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there. It is for a worthy cause; the town is trying to raise money to keep the town up, and I think you should go and support that,” Schwieger concluded.
