As October begins, the Lady Patriot Volleyball prepares for their 10th annual Breast Cancer Awareness match against West Memphis on Oct. 3.

Each year, citizens of Marion and West Memphis set aside their hometown rivalry to come together in support of breast cancer patients and survivors in our community. This year’s honoree is Mrs. Pam Doherty. Doherty works at Avondale Elementary School, and her daughter, Megan Doherty, is a member of Marion Junior High’s volleyball team.

Pink t-shirts were sold in preparations for the event. Coach Lisa Beasley hopes to get them delivered by Monday, Oct. 2.

The Breast Cancer Awareness match will be held at the West Memphis Arena, and the middle school through high school  teams will play. The first match of the night will begin at 4:30. After the Junior A match, Doherty will share her story with the audience.

All proceeds will benefit Doherty’s recovery efforts, so come out and support a great cause and team.
