As Lady Patriot Volleyball season makes its return, Coach Beasley and her team are excited for what this season has in store. With six talented seniors, Coach Beasley is confident that the team will play through the season with determination and hard work.

Last year, Marion’s volleyball team had an outstanding year; however they fell short of the championship title. In preparation for the new season, Coach Beasley has been focusing on teaching the girls to play together as a family.

“Once the girls started buying into the idea of being a family and practicing and playing as a family, it really makes a big difference,” Beasley states.

As for her expectations of this year’s seniors, Coach Beasley has faith that the girls will give their best effort, regardless of their experience. With several star players on the previous team, the current seniors did not receive as much playing time on the varsity, or A team, level.

“This group of seniors, especially, have always worked hard in practice,” she praises, “They love volleyball, and you can tell. That goes a long way.”

The team has been focusing on their defense and serve-receive as they prepare for tough matches against tough competition. The 5A/6A conference consists of several competitive teams. With Marion’s past achievements, Coach Beasley is sure that there will be several teams eager to compete against her team.

“Great things come in small packages,” Coach Beasley says of her team’s smaller height as compared to last year.

The team recently fell short against Valley View and Paragould; however the girls are anxious to come back stronger in upcoming matches.

“Coach Beasley always reminds us to execute the little things during a game, and that helps us a lot,” senior Destiny King says, “We just fell a little short, but we’ll get them next time.”

The Patriots worked together on the court to defeat West Memphis at the September 5 home match.

Senior Claire Moncrief kills the ball.

“Every game is going to be a dog fight,” Coach Beasley admits, “Defense is what’s going to win a game, and I’m really counting on my seniors for leadership. People ask me ‘how do you replace last year’s team?’ My answer every year is you don’t replace anybody. You have new players that come in and step up to be a part of our Marion volleyball tradition.”

The Lady Patriots’ next game will be on September 7 at Blytheville High School, and they will return to their home court on September 14 against Nettleton.
